the power of the people don't stop. >> justice -- >> justice. >> nbc's katy tur is outside a wendy's in new york city. >> reporter: hey there, abby. the protest made its way to brooklyn where i'm standing now. it's been happening across the country in cities. over 100 cities are hoping for thousands of workers. there are about 100 here in this wendy's. they've completely blocked the entrance and shut down operations, not allowing anyone to go in or come out. we haven't seen any workers come out of the wendy's to join this protest. i know that's kind of the goal here. so far we have not seen that. they've been chanting things like "we can't survive on $7.25," which is really the heart of the issue. they're saying the minimum wage of $7.25 an hour just isn't enough for them to live. they can't survive on it. they're asking for $15 an hour, calling that a real living wage. now, most of these workers, you might think they're teenagers. that's not the case. they're mostly women over the age of 28. in many cases, they have to work more than one job, two jobs to make ends meet to feed their famili

cities walk off the job today in an effort to push for higher wages. nbc's katy tur at one of those rallies in brooklyn, new york. she filed this report during the protests this morning. >> reporter: here outside of this wendy's in brooklyn, about 100 people have shown up. they've completely blocked the entrance trying to disrupt the lunchtime rush, not allowing pretty much anything inside. their goal is to get workers inside these companies like wendy's, inside these fast food joints to come out during their shifts. i'm not sure that's happened. it's been kind of hard to see whether or not anyone's been able to come out. that's really the goal across the country is really to disrupt this service. they've been chanting things like "we can't survive on 7.25." they're sea saying the minimum wage isn't enough for them to live. it's not enough for them to feed themselves or their families, not enough for them to clothe their families. they're saying a living wage, a fair living wage would be $15 an hour. of course, these are the second protests in just a few months. there was a major pr

, a coordinated pr campaign engineered by national labor groups. nbc's katy tur has more outside a restaurant in brooklyn where dozens of workers have gathered. >> reporter: tamron, the protest has made its way to brooklyn. there are about 100 or so workers outside this wendy's in brooklyn chanting just a moment ago "we can't survive on $7.25." they're also holding signs, asking for the right to unionize. they're saying $7.25 an hour isn't enough to support themselves or their family. they're asking for $15 an hour. these wiomen over the age of 28. they're saying often times they need to work two jobs, three jobs in order to support themselves. they can't even get full-time work in many of these industries because they're capped off at 35 hours a week. now, fast food companies say any sort of raise just isn't going to happen. that $15 an hour especially is a nonstarter. they're saying if they raise the wage of their workers, it's going to get passed down to the consumer in the form of higher prices for food. there are no hard numbers on this, but it's estimated that the price of a burger coul
